Homework: Sharp & Sophisticated: 5 Compositions

 What you are doing is not painting "details" but painting compositions with a great sense of staging, lighting and mobile focal points. Part of that is really looking how the painting layout is constructed and how you organize lost-and-found edges to identify some important information about things and space.

Homework: TIMES OF DAY: 3 compositions

I would like you to do 3 paintings capturing different times of the day/scenes with different types of light/dark with different painted value keys (dark/medium/light). They should take about an hour and 15 minutes TOPS (!) and defiantly get the idea of using a scene to convey mood and setting a emotional tone. Make them about 8 X 11" tops but if you want to try a thinner 5" X 12" that’s fine as well.

Homework: NARRATIVE: 14 compositions

take ONE THEME/STORY/VIGNETTE and create 14 compositions.    Your first 10/TEN  value thumbnails need to be clear and have a high range of different lighting keys with lost and found edges. Then take 3/THREE of those and work them up so they are all different with variations of value/tone with lighting, value groupings and clarity.    Remember, twenty feet minimum. No close ups of heads unless there is something to move the eye into the background. Then take your best image and nail it down and to a "completed" drawing.   So 14 images total and please do me a favor and lets not cram them all on a couple of pages.
